INSIDE OUT

is an experimental multimedia audio-visual project based on the multi-layered nature of the human personality and the contradictions between its socially-constructed and internal parts. The bathtub is a space where a person, through exposure and contact with water, removes the outer shell of social perception. Each time during a self-immersion, a dialogue is born with that which the author calls the underwater creeping matter named “R”, woven from the depths of ancestral memory, black viscous underground sludge, repressed fantasies, creeping desires and pearly insights. The idea for the work was born from the artist’s many years of research into her southern Caucasian roots and the practice of keeping a personal diary.

“Liquid, black, viscous & stringy like a tree resin. Deep underwater abyss. Under the very depths of the depths. Mysterious like sandy labyrinths of dunes. Fragrant like sour lunar blood. Decomposing wet iron, Shimmering with mother-of-pearl. Metals. Non-metal. Flammable.”
